A trusted Take Care provider spends time with the person they care for, giving the carer space to rest, run errands, attend an appointment, catch up with a friend or simply have a few hours to themselves.

Support may include companionship, simple activities, meal preparation, everyday routines, light household help and general supervision.

Trusted non-medical support for the person you care for, so you can take a break.

• sitting with the person at home
• games, reading, TV or simple activities
• preparing a simple meal/snack
• light household support while with them
• support with everyday routines
• accompanying them on a walk or simple outing

A note on support

Carer Break Support is non-medical, non-clinical practical and companionship support.

Take Care providers are not engaged to provide nursing or medical treatment and cannot provide services outside their approved skills or qualifications.

Carer Break Support does not include:

• nursing or clinical care
• medical procedures
• medication administration
• complex personal care
• behaviour support requiring specialist training
• emergency care
• tasks requiring a registered health professional

Where a person requires clinical, nursing or specialist support, families should use an appropriately qualified or registered provider.
